DeMarco Family Mafia #1

Dangerous Secrets

Rate this book
Sage

I have a secret.

I'm in love with my father's right hand man. The one the others all mockingly call the bodyguard, for his tendency to stick by my side at my defense in every room I'm in. While Nicholas Prince is content to take what he needs from my body, he'll never truly see me.

Or so I thought.

When a life-altering, critical error in judgement leaves me promised in marriage to our greatest enemy, everything changes. Everyone in our world has something to hide and there’s more concealed beneath the surface than I could ever have known.

Now keeping my own secrets may be impossible.

Especially from Nicholas.

Especially from my fiancé.

Especially from my fiancé's very dangerous and alluring brother…

Nicholas

She's done nothing but make my life a living hell ever since I came here to work for her father.

All long legs, luscious lips, and swaying hips. Sage DeMarco is the one thing that I cannot afford to have. A distraction.

If her family ever found out I've been defiling her in more ways than one they'd cut my c**k off first and my head second.

Thing is, now that she's promised to marry our greatest enemy, all my rational thought has gone out the window.

Victor Rushkoff cannot have her.

And neither can his f**king psychotic brother.

Okay, it took a bit of time for me to actually get into this one. The h honestly just annoyed me during the first 40% of this book...but holy hell...I was not expecting those twists and turns...I mean I thought I had things figured out, but then I was so wrong...and that ending...I need more, I need freaking answers ASAP.

The heroine's chemistry with a certain someone was so freaking intense 🔥

And let's not forget the secrets this h has...my view of her changed in the last few chapters 🙈

I received this arc from Grey’s Promotions and let me tell you that this book really suprised me in a good way!!

This was a mafia romance that I enjoyed reading and the suspense was addicting. The book was an easy read and I liked the enemies to lovers, arranged marriage tropes in it.

If you love dark romances, definitely give this book a try. 🔪

I will be 100% reading the second book in this series. ❤️

Heat 3/5

It’s a little hard for me to tell how I feel about this story overall. I definitely felt my emotions swinging wildly, all over the place, throughout the book. Right now? Right now, I’m devastated by the ending and straight cries through the last few chapters of the book. Didn’t expect that!

There were many things I didn’t expect while reading Dangerous Secrets. I didn’t expect to read about a love square, or to have a love/hate relationship with Sage, the FMC. She appears demure, small, obedient. But in reality, she is WILD. She’s constantly escaping her home, she throws temper tantrums as a distraction, and she’s being naughty with the help. Some of the things she pulls off in the story, I have a bit of trouble believing she did all of it. But that’s her trick - she puts on a great show to hide what she’s really capable of. Kind of a mafia princess genius?

I loved Sage’s family: Uncle Anton, Freddie, even semi-grumpy Nic - her dirty little secret. I do wish we saw more of Freddie’s abilities and skills. I LOVE Isla! She was a great addition to the cast of characters. Alexei?? I melt every time he’s on scene. Him and Victor must be quite a pair to visually feast upon.

I don’t want to summarize anything else for fear of giving away some spoilers by accident. However, if you like forbidden, mafia, love triangle, lots of secrets, arranged marriage - you will enjoy this book. Well-executed, great dialogue, some wonderful characters. Now to wait for book 2!!

Thank you Grey’s Promotions for this ARC!

From the moment I picked this book up, I couldn’t put it down. I was on edge and I was so surprised at every turn it took, I really wasn’t expecting any of it!

The dark/mafia romance tropes were so perfectly portrayed in this. I loved Nic, he was the perfect bodyguard/protector mc and I really enjoyed him and Sage together. But Alexei… he was dark and mysterious and definitely the psychopath and trained killer as introduced but in the best possible way.

The plot was so captivating and unexpected and the characters were literally all perfect. And the cliffhanger!!! I have never been more disappointed that I can’t read the next book right away but I will 100% be reading it when it comes out!

There’s nothing better than a dark mafia romance with a strong FMC and an arranged marriage trope! I also loved the disability representation!! Hear me out and hang in there! It has a few slow points but when it picks up it really picks up!

This book had me on edge from the start and all the twists and turns made for quite a wild ride. There were several times I caught myself yelling “No Way!”
The one thing I didn’t expect was for this to break my heart into pieces! The last few chapters had me sobbing. I need to know what happens next and I can’t wait for book 2!!

My heart HURTS

I didn't see ANYTHING that happened in this book coming. I cant even write a full review, I'm so freaking shocked at what I just read 😭

The author had me hooked from page one and had me heart ripped out by the end. This is definitely a book worth reading. The romance, the action, the mystery, the plot twist, the chemistry everything was written perfectly.

I want to read the second book so bad but I need a couple of months to get over this one.

I generally do not like love triangles, they are too angsty for me, but I was not mad about it here. I really liked this book. Sage was not what I expected in a mafia princess. I LOVED her family. Her Uncle Anton, Fallen and Nick were awesome. This book checked so many boxes: mafia, forbidden romance, enemies to lovers, fiancee's brother. I do not want to say more because i don't want to spoil it but I cannot wait for the next book, I need it now!

This is the first book I’ve read from the author and it is amazing. Sage is awesome. Mafia Princess in love with her bodyguard Nic. Than enters psychopath Alexei. I love both men. Both are good for her in different ways. The book was amazing with all the secrecy involved. Can’t wait for the next book.
I received this book as an ARC and my opinion is my own. Great book to read if you like mafia romance. Thank you.

Thoughts 💭
I really enjoyed this story! There is multiple POVs throughout, although it is mainly Sage. There is so much sexual tension throughout the characters and I’m left not sure who I want together more! It ends with a cliffhanger to lead onto the second book! I will deff be reading that when it comes out. If you like a good mafia princess story, with twist and turns I deff recommend this book. It also has so spicy scenes.

Thank you Amy Barnett and Wildfire market solutions for allowing me to an ARC for my honest opinion!

This month I'm finding only new authors to read, and you Amy Barnett is one of them.

Dangerous Secrets is mafia romance ,bodyguard romance with big twist that I was absolutely not ready for in the end.
The story lead us to Sage DeMarco the22yro DeMarco princess, who is spoiled and bratty and I didn't like her in the beginning with her childish attitude.
She always hase a thing for her father right hand man Nicholas Prince, this broody and grump man ,who is like a shadow to her. But unfortunately when she desired something more from him except from his body,he hase completely other plans.
I can admit that Nicholas was giving her mixed signals from the beginning. One moment he wants her,the other this between us is not happening.
Then 50% of the book the storyline get completely 360° and then the action, and the interesting part begin.
New characters also comes ,and the one that get my full attention is Alexei ,this tattooed crazy man,who stole me completely.
Now it gets hard to me to,because in the beginning the main MMC interes was one,but then I feel how the things are getting in other direction, and I was happy about it. But for sure with the cliffhanger in the end i still cryed my eyes out, and can't wait for the second book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This was my first book by Amy, and I really liked it.

I have such a love-hate relationship with this book. I loved the plot. and the characters were great, but I hated how much of a rollercoaster of emotions I was taken on. There were multiple times where I asked myself if I wanted to DNF this book, but I decided to keep going. I was so stressed that I kept getting up from my bed and silently screaming. I threw my phone multiple times. My experience reading this book was chaotic.

The way the plot was progressing was something I did not expect, plus seeing how many POVs there were was a little overwhelming.

I really enjoyed all of the characters. I loved seeing Sage's growth from the beginning of the book until the end. I loved her relationship with Anton and Freddie. I also loved her personality and the way she interacted with the other characters. She was hilarious to me. Victor always gave me a weird vibe, and I knew he was up to something (it's always the calm ones, lol).

Now, when it came to the romance in this book, at first, I thought it was going to be why choose, which is a trope I'm not a fan of, but then I realized it was more of a love triangle, another trope I'm not a fan of. Alexei is the morally grey character we all love, with tattoos and a psycho vibe. Nic is Sage's bodyguard and is very hot and cold, at least for the first half of the book. I instantly loved Nic, so I also felt threatened when I saw that Alexei and Sage had a connection. His POVs always broke my heart. I did love the chemistry and the banter between Sage and Alexei, and how they were able to see through each other.

Now, the way the last 15% of the book played out was something I did not expect. Everything was popping off, and my emotions went through it all. Now, I'm heartbroken, and I don't know how I will recover from this.

Overall, I really liked this book.

Thank you to Grey's Promotion and Amy Barnett for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Dangerous Secrets by Amy Barnet

Spice, Mystery, Secret…Oh My!

What do you get when you put a smart mouthed mafia princess, a pining bodyguard who can’t figure out his feelings, and the 2nd in command of the rival Russian Bratva?

You get this book, everyone has a secret and no one’s willing to share, until it’s too late.

Sage, our mouthy, stubborn, taunting vixen of a mafia princess. Being the daughter of one of the biggest mafia families comes with its downfalls, the biggest one being you are always in danger, and you are always a target.

Nicholas, our secret toting, protecting, and forbialways has to stay on his toes with Sage, she’s either trying to sneak off of the property or she’s trying to seduce him, and he can never resist one head is always stronger than the other.

Alexei, second in command to his brother Victor of the local Bratva. He’s been called a psychopath, he is a trained killer and he has a heart that’s been frozen for as long as he can remember. Brought to the doorstep of his enemy to keep the peace and not go to war, he can’t seem to keep his eyes off of his vicious little vixen princess.

With threats coming left and right, and everyone holding onto their own secrets, will everything blow up in their faces or will they come to an agreement that profits both sides?

Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

This is not a why choose even though it sounds like it you’ll never know what’s coming with the twist and turns in this book. But you will want to stay until the end grab your tissues and buckle in! But beware this is one the beginning of the story there will be a part 2 where all hell will break loose!

Thank you Amy for the opportunity to read this amazing book. My heart is still shattered all over the floor and my eyes still hurt from crying. I am goin going to need book 2 to heal my heart!

OMGGGGG I LOVE THIS BOOK.
Dangerous Secrets is a thrilling mafia romance book. The story follows Sage DeMarco, the female lead and the Italian mafia princess. Just after her father's death, she got a marriage contract between her and her family’s rival, Victor Rushkoff, the Russian mafia. He is invited into her house to get to know each other before the wedding. But he never goes anywhere without his brother, Alexei Rushkoff, a psychopath killer. Nicolas Prince was her father’s right-hand man and her first love is now on high alert because enemies are in their home.

There was no chemistry between Sage and Victor. I was literally like please do not end up with him. I did not see any chemistry between Nicolas and Sage in starting but as the book progressed, I saw the chemistry. But Alexei is the one who I love the most. Out of the three of them, Alexei has more chemistry with Sage. Alexei is your morally gray character but they were able to see through each other’s wall. I loved it. Sage? Omg, this girl is badass. I love her. When I started reading the book, I thought I am not going to like the book because she is going to be an innocent good girl kind of girl but Boy was I wrong. She is a rebel.

Now about the plot. I loved it. It was interesting and I love mafia romance with fighting, house ambush, and kidnapping. DO NOT JUDGE. It was an easy read for me. I could not put the book down. It had some slow points but when it picks up, it was amazing. This book ends on a cliffhanger BUT you are going to love it. It is worth it. There were a few situations where I felt, they are not clearly explained but I guess we will get to read about them in the next book. Besides that, I loved the book and cannot wait for the next one. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Releasing on 22nd June.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the story of Sage and Nicholas and Alexei. She is a handful. Mouth and stubborn and quite the beauty. She is the daughter of one of the largest mafia families there is. However she is a smart girl and knows that this life always will mean that there is an element of danger lurking around her and more than likely at some point she will be the target. Nicholas is her father's right hand man and she has it bad for him. The others in the organization call him the bodyguard. He really has his hands full with Sage as she is always trying to do something she is not supposed to. She flirts with him constantly and while he intends to not let that affect him it does and he has a hard time staying away from her. There is a war coming and everyone is carrying so many secrets around. Then we have Alexei. He is the second in command behind his brother Victor of the local Bratva. The man is really a little on the crazy psychopath side. A trained killer who is very good at what he does. However the man is missing his heart. When he finds himself at the door of his enemy to try to keep the peace he has a real problem keeping his eyes off of Sage. This is a tangled web for sure. However there are some moments where this book slows down and I really struggled but I am so glad I didn't give up. Because when those slower moments are over this book takes off and you spend most of your time on the edge of your seat. This is not a why choose romance like it sounds though so don't expect that. You will see what I mean when you read the book.

(Thank you Peachy Keen and the author Amy Barnett for the eARC in exchange for a spoiler free review)

Please check out trigger warnings before reading.

What a book, it is so rare for mafia books to make me tear up but this book did. Absolutely amazing.
It is my first book that I’ve read from this author but you can be damn sure that my eyes are already peeled for the next book.

Sage, where do I even start? There was a mystery to her since the start, she was foreshadowed to be ruthless and strong and badass with a secret. When the secret was revealed (which I totally didn’t see it coming) my jaw hit the floor. I really love Sage’s character and I can’t see what she becomes in the next book!

It seemed like Sage had a square kinda thing going on in the whole book. She was going to be married off to Victor, while she was in love with Nicholas but she also had eyes for Alexei, Victor’s brother. I didn’t know what was going to happen, who was she going to choose. Heck, at some point I wished it could turn into some kind of RH plot. But then the ending came through with a cliffhanger and the next book needs to be published asap.

I liked the pace of the book; it was just nice with the plotlines and characters with the scenes. The plot was also built up just nice, without a lack in any place.

I really can’t wait for book 2! All mafia lovers should read this book, definitely keep your eyes out for Amy Barnett!

This is a brand new author for us and we enjoyed our first read by them. From the moment we started turning the pages we were hooked and preceded to devour the rest of the story to the very end. The story took so many twists and turns and we loved that. The chemistry between the character was awesome. As the story progressed, we already see that this story will need to be continued so prepare for book two and what it has in store for us things be more suspenseful while keeping the reader on the edge while things all play out.

The characters were awesome we even saw some growth from some of them throughout the story. We loved the banter among these characters, especially Alexi and Sage who seemed to have some kind of connection with one another.

Overall we enjoyed this dark romance with a spoiled Mafia princess and a bodyguard who needed to sh-- or get off the pot about his feeling for his stubborn trouble-making princess. The suspense was awesome and the story had a bit of the enemies-to-lover theme going on and maybe even a love triangle in the making but, we already have a soft spot for Nic we know whom we are rooting for. Get the tissues ready and on hand, your going to need them.

I have very mixed emotions about this book. I had a good time but also felt somewhat unfilled. Let me explain.

Let me start off with what I liked first. I will always eat up a forbidden, mafia, bodyguard romance. Like every single time. Shit is just too good. This one was also really well executed. The plot itself was also interesting, the characters were flawed in a compelling way, the FMC was oddly dislikably likable (idk if that makes sense), and the writing was good.

The issue for me was that one of my legit least favorite tropes of all time was in this book. It really took me out of the story and just put me at arm's length. Also the ending just wasn't what I signed up for personally. Like it was really shocking and insane – props to the author for that – but it wasn't really what I wanted unfortunately and sort of ruined the overall experience for me.

But that's also just me. I think objectively speaking, this is a great mafia romance with a complicated plot, flawed characters, and the set up for one of the most intense enemies-to-lovers situations I've ever seen. So, yeah, do with that what you will.

A new to me author and Dangerous Secrets includes several of my favourite tropes including arranged marriage, falling for a bodyguard and dark mafia romance, although to be honest, after reading the blurb for this bookI I half expected things to develop into an RH situation. I mean a bodyguard, an arranged mafia to a mobster and then you throw your fiancé’s brother into the mix, well my imagination was working overtime but no such luck. This book stayed strictly in the realm of romantic suspense as Mafia princess Sage falls for her bodyguard despite knowing that an arranged marriage was on the cards for her.

With fantastic storytelling and a plot full of twists and turns and a great cast of characters especially the heroine, Sage who I think is going to surprise us all as this series progresses and she reaches her full potential I enjoyed this introduction to Amy Barnet’s writing. The one niggle I have is I’m not sure how I feel about the ending of this book, it was definitely a bit of a shocker but I’m still intrigued for the next book to see where this story will go next. One thing for certain, its going to be a case of ‘let battle commence!’

Thank you so much to Grey's Promotions and the author for an ARC in return for an honest review !

Normally, I'm never taken by surprise but Amy has proven me wrong. Just when I thought the twists had stopped. They did not.
-
Sage DeMarco, a 22-year-old mafia princess has experienced something tragic, her father's passing but now the threat is back to finish the job that was all along. Get the girl. But when a strange document shows up, promising her hand to every Nicholas is not for it. He has to show Sage what he truly wants, her, even if it means risking it all.
-
When I tell y’all I ate this up. I loved Nic and even Alexei, the arranged fiancé’s brother. I haven’t read a love triangle since Flock and I can say I’m starting to love this trope. Sage herself is like likable but also irritates me at some part but her tantrums are understandable so she’s forgiven. Nic deserves the world but also Alexei does too. So I couldn’t pick a side. Her “fiance” could go away.
-
But this story was such an easy fun read, bodyguard romance. Forbidden love. Love triangle. Secrets and twists. Sage is also diabetic which is nice seeing representation in the mafia world. Loved it!

Dangerous Secrets is the perfect dark mafia romance which is totally my jam, and from the moment I picked it up, well, I couldn't put it back down until I devoured every last page. Our heroine is the spoiled mafia princess, Sage, who finds trouble no matter where she goes. Our hero, Nicholas, is her bodyguard, and she's caught feelings for him which makes things more complicated since you already know it's forbidden. They have tons of chemistry which has the sparks flying but again forbidden. Then you add in delicious bad boy Alexei, and things really get interesting. This story kept me on my toes cover to cover with all the chaos of this world. It obviously means there are twists coming in hot with a kicker of action so once my heart started to race, it didn't stop for some time after I finished it. I'm trying to keep this review vague as I don't want to give anything away because in my opinion, any lover of mafia romance needs this story in their lives. I'm dying inside for more after the way this book ended so it cannot come out quickly enough! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

After the death of her mafia father Sage wasn't aware of all the threats against her. Her uncle, Freddie and Nic kept those secrets from her. Then a mysterious document appears supposedly from her father stating she is to marry Victor, a parkan of the Russian bravta. She agrees to meet with him.
Things are not as they appear.
Nic and Sage have been having a secret affair. He's hot and cold. Due to his secret he seems the type. Sage has a tiny secret as well.
Victor seems charming but I got the feeling he had an underlying plan. A wolf in sheep's clothing.
Alexei, Victor's brother, is dark, dangerous, impulsive, quick tempered, and has a psycho killer aura. Sage loved to antagonize him.
Soon their chemistry began to sizzle but they never acted upon it.
A war is on the horizon and the threats are increased putting everyone in danger.
When you think you know what is going to happen next, bam! Twists and turns around every corner.
Action packed drama, mystery, suspense, lies, secrets and steamy scenes.
Can't wait for next installment! Dangerous Promises! Sage and Alexei's story!

This story is so good and more. Just when you think that you have figured out everything in the book, the writer throws you a curve ball and you stump back a few paces. Sage is so sneaky and intellectually rocking it. She is really not what it seems and with every step in the story the mystery deepens, only to be unravelled in a very emotional and frightening way.

There are so many characters in this story to make the pillars of plot and each have a very significant role. Alexei is the darest devil and when he was on the drain pipe, it was the best scene. His chemistry with Sage, and the intensity of his glares leaves a track of burning fire along the way. He is the most unpredictable, and that’s very dangerous.

Nick is so sweet but also dangerous. There is so much happening in the book that I was hooked, and I applaud whenever something is revealed or anything exciting came up. The ENDING is DEVASTATING. I didn’t want the story to end but it had to, and that too on a very anticipating note. So I think I'll have to wait for the next book to get the conclusion.

Dangerous Secrets

5⭐️
➡️swipe for synopsis & my fan cast!

This book was fantastic. I love a good Mafia book and this was no exception. @preferablypaperback told me it was "twisty & turny" and I said SAY LESS. And she was right. I had a lot of fun trying to figure this book out. (news flash: I didn't see any of THAT coming.)

Sage DeMarco is a Mafia daughter who has been kept safe in her family's mansion for long enough. She longs for freedom and a normal life. When her Mafia boss father is killed, she is kept in the mansion with security tighter than ever. Then, a marriage contract from her father arrives from the grave and it promises her to another family. When her rival-turned-future husband and his brother come to stay at the mansion, things get complicated. Everyone has a secret and everyone has an agenda.

There were some OH-MY-GOD-WHAAAT moments that I absolutely loved. You know from the beginning that something is up, but you don't know what. UNTIL YOU DO.

If you like Mafia, this is definitely one you need to read. There are some spicy scenes, but I wouldn't consider it a spicy book.

I will be honest and almost DNF this one until I got 50% in. Once I got halfway, the action kicked in and you finally got some answers as to what was going on. I would definitely say this was a slow burn. Once the action kicked in, I was a lot more intrigued and blew through the second half of the book. Overall a quick read.

Sage is a character that I just didn’t connect with until the very end when she finally reveals more of who she actually is. She plays a Rapunzel like character, locked away and always looking for an escape. Nicholas his hiding something and seems very flaky in his feelings for Sage throughout most of the book. The character I LOVED was Alexei with his tattoos and nicknames for Sage. The relationships between all characters is typical for a mafia romance, twisted and dark lol

The ending left on a big cliffhanger so makes me want to read the next when it releases.

Whoa! What a wild ride! This is my first experience of mafia/bodyguard/forbidden romance and I. Am. Here. For it! The tension. The spice. The action. The twists and turns. This book has it all! I found myself rooting for each character in their own way - even the “bad guys”! Secretly, I always love the bad boy… I did not see some of the backstabbing intensity coming though. There were a few spots that I audibly exclaimed “what?!” at the book making for a very enjoyable reading experience. I cannot wait for book 2!

I’d recommend this to any fan of thrillers and romance. Just be warned, there are a few spicy scenes and some graphic action!

This was my first book I’ve read by Amy, and I love when you discover a new author that totally throws your emotions in blender, and are left wanting more. That’s how I feel, especially after this cliffhanger ending. I NEED the next book! I thought the beginning to took a little bit to get going, and I wasn’t crazy about Sage, but damn does it pick up! And I was sitting anxiously waiting for what was to come.
I love mafia romances, especially the forbidden kind. But I will say, the end left me feeling unsure and my emotions a wreck. I truly didn’t see the ending coming and I kept praying and hoping things weren’t as they seemed. I’m still hoping that there’s a huge plot twist in the next book and the ending in this book wasn’t real. I doubt I’ll get that, in fact I know I won’t, but I’m hoping because right now my heart is in pieces.

There are layers and layers of secrets in the DeMarco house. Secrets like the boss’ daughter sneaking around with the right hand man. Secrets that land Sage under the same roof as members of the rival Rushkoff family - her new fiancé and his dangerous brother.

Despite the fair warning, I still forgot there would be a cliffhanger and felt my stomach drop at the realization that there were not nearly enough pages left to resolve this situation. This book was wildly exciting and with every page Sage proved that this mafia princess was not to be underestimated. The more the story unfolded, the less sure I was of who I was rooting for and now I can’t wait to get my hands on Dangerous Promises!

4.5/5 dates for me!

I did receive an ARC copy in exchange for a review!

First off mafia romance, right up my alley. I LOVED the forbidden/bodyguard romance aspect of it and to have a semi spicy scene like 20% in?! Kept me hooked😂

I loved Nic, he was definitely a great MMC. Sage, who’s only 22, did hug me in the sense that she was really immature BUT she was also the typical mafia princess who was locked away and had rare social interactions with people.

The reason it wasn’t a full 5 star was the introduction of Alexei… I’m normally not a love triangle kinda girl so it threw me off but I did end up enjoying what he added to the story.

That ending tho🤯😭

If you’re into mafia romances you’ll probably really enjoy this!
